During Covid, as many people have found things to do at home. I became a homestead gardener, where I grew from seed, corn, tomatoes, yellow squash, round squash, onions, kale, peppers of all kinds in my friends backyard in Newmarket. I had the time of my life, often walking around shirtless, pulling weeds every day in the heat, digging and pruning. But the reward was priceless, to be able to pick a squash from the garden fresh each day for dinner. Nurtured by my own hands.  And this relates to me as an artist, to have a life of substance and authenticity, rather from the vegetable's shipped from Mexico, that I can smell the soil from my backyard.  The same scent is in the juices of the squash I eat.
